71 is a contemporary art space in Hamburg founded by Marie Becker and Amanda Weimer.

In the former premises of Galerie Jürgen Becker, 71 is home to Archiv Becker, chess club, and The Collecting Practice. Bringing past and present into an active dialogue, 71 creates a cohesive framework in which historical legacies and contemporary artistic practices continuously inform one another. Drawing on the complementary expertise of its founders, 71 connects archival research, curatorial practice, publishing, and collection building within a shared programme. In doing so, 71 expands the conventional role of the gallery, proposing a collaborative model dedicated to generating new forms of exchange through and around art.

71’s programme includes exhibitions, performances, screenings, readings, publications, and conversations, alongside long-term research and collection consultancy. At its core is the belief that contemporary art gains its greatest vitality through the encounter between different generations, perspectives, and modes of practice.

Founded in 2022 by Amanda Weimer, chess club continues its independent curatorial programme at 71 by bringing together emerging and established local and international artists while fostering dialogue across disciplines. Amanda Weimer is a curator based in Hamburg, where she organises projects with a focus on collaborative and interdisciplinary formats. The programme is complemented by the Bookshop, featuring thematic publications and a carefully curated selection of artists' books that extends engagement with contemporary artistic practice beyond the exhibition space.

Archiv Becker, directed by Marie Becker, preserves the extensive archive of her father, Jürgen Becker, whose gallery operated from 1989 to 2026. Selected artworks, ephemera, and publications will be activated through exhibitions and focused presentations, positioning the archive not as a retrospective collection but as a point of departure for new research and contemporary discourse.

Alongside Archiv Becker, Marie Becker runs The Collecting Practice at 71, a consultancy dedicated to building thoughtful and distinctive collections of contemporary art. Working closely with collectors, The Collecting Practice connects emerging collectors with artists and ideas, fostering long-term engagement with artistic practices through informed guidance and a willingness to challenge conventional approaches to collecting.
