71 is pleased to present an exhibition with works by Sem Lala (b. 2000, Albania) and Andrea Fraser (b. 1965, Montana, USA).
Sem Lala presents a new body of work titled Debt, which is developed through an ongoing investigation of material alongside the social and economic structures that underpin institutional life. Working with photography, sculpture, and installation, Lala approaches these systems through their often overlooked and contradictory manifestations.
Working across performance, video, sculpture, photography, and text, Andrea Fraser investigates the social, political, economic, and emotional structures that underpin the art world and its institutions. In May I Help You? on view at 71, Andrea Fraser adopts multiple voices to examine the often contradictory relationships between museums, the art market, and their publics. Through performance, she reveals how cultural value and authority are produced through language, social roles, and institutional conventions.
